Today July 15, 2015 is observed as World Youth Skill Day. To mark the day certain initiatives have been taken by IHM Kolkata. The students of IHM Kolkata of all the Three Year Degree course in B.Sc. in Hotel & Hospitality Administration are regularly developed in the skills of respective areas. The areas include Food Production – here the students are trained to prepare food, Food & Beverage Service – here the students are trained to serve food, Front Office – here the students are trained to welcome guests and take special care of their needs, Accommodation Operations – here the students are trained to service guest rooms. Apart from that we conduct programme for unemployed youth and who cannot afford college education. The course conducted for them is called Hunar Se Rozgar – which is part of Ministry Tourism, Government of India. We impart skill in these areas. Which is helpful for them to earn their livelihood.
Food Production – students here are imparted skills on basic identification of different food products, equipments used to prepare the dishes, along with preparing the menu of the day. Food & Beverage Service – students here are trained to be well groomed and presentable to interact with the guests, identifying different equipments to serve food, along with serving the menu of the day. Accommodation Operations – students here are trained to prepare flower arrangements, identifying equipments used to service guest rooms.
The college also conducts Skill Certification Course for professionals who are from the Hospitality Industry. An over-view of their course includes Skill development in Food Production, Food & Beverage Service and Accommodation Operations. The professionals are given inputs on various cuisines, speciality food dishes, world of wines and spirits and their service along with hi-touch service and guest comfort in rooms.
To mark the occasion to celebrate World Youth Skill Day we have organised special classes,a seminar – highlighting the importance of youth power and how they are the driving force of the present change they are going to make in our progressing country. Even a cultural programme was organised to celebrate the same where initiatives were taken by the students themselves.
